Day 28 - Cutest Moment

The class protector award

This is one of the cutest moments for me. The whole of Buffy’s graduating year give her a class protector award for saving them so many times. It was totally unexpected but when I thought about it, it made sense that the students of Sunnydale would notice that weird things were happening at their school and that Buffy was usually around to stop them. It was really cute how it was Jonathan who awarded it as Buffy had helped him so much and the way Buffy reacts and how Giles smiles like a proud father are both cute too.

Day 27 - Favourite Scene(s)

The songs in Once more with feeling

I didn’t know how to choose my favourite scene, there are so many. So I narrowed it down- by choosing a collection of favourite scenes… The songs in once more with feeling are so well written and staged. Joss Whedon did a great job by making the songs so catchy and tuneful but also progress the story. They’re so well written that I enjoy listening to them outside of the episode itself.

Day 25 - Two characters you wanted to get together that never did

Robin and Faith

Well they slept together but they didn’t become a couple. I like both of the characters and I think Robin would make a great partner for the reformed Faith but they haven’t got together at least in the any of the post-Tv series comics I’ve read. They had those great interactions in Chosen and he hasn’t had more of an opportunity to surprise her yet.

Day 20 - Character who didn’t get enough screen time 

Jenny Calendar

Jenny is a really interesting character to me. I would have liked to find out more about what it means to be a techno-pagan and see more of her relationship with Giles as it would have given the writers an opportunity to show that Giles is a human and not just ‘the-exposition-guy’. Jenny got a lot of stick for her gypsy past and the fact that she was in essence a double agent spying on the gang but considering she grew up in a culture that obsessed over their hate of Angel I think she grew up pretty well adjusted.

Day 24- Best Giles-centric episode

A new man

There’s not that many Giles-centric episodes well this is my favourite out of the options. Giles feels left out of Buffy’s life and a chance encounter with Ethan Rayne sees him being turned into a demon. Episode highlight: Giles having Spike stop the car so he can scare Professor Walsh.

Day 23 - Best Xander-centric Episode

The Zeppo

It’s the quintessential Xander-centric episode. It has so many great comedy moments: Xander and Oz’s deconstruction of coolness, Xander’s date with the car obsessed girl, the Scooby gang saving the world off-screen, Xander’s over-dramatic perception of Buffy and Angel’s relationship… Then outside of the comedy I liked Xander’s own hero moment where he actually comes off as pretty scary. A very enjoyable episode.

Day 22 - Best Willow-centric Episode

Something blue

Again I would never say it was the best just one of my favourites. I like something blue as Will has her will done and basically brings trouble on all her friends. Giles in particular had some great lines in this episode as he reacts to Buffy’s unexpected engagement and another favourite of mine was when they finally changed Amy back into a human only to have her to return to rat form moments later. Props to the actress for returning for such a fleeting cameo.

Day 21 - Best Buffy-centric Episode

Earshot

One of my favourite Buffy-centric episodes is Earshot. I loved the concept of Buffy being able to read people’s minds and the comic situations that resulted from that. I particularly enjoyed that Cordelia just spoke whatever she thought, that was a really good character beat. I think they could’ve milked the idea more as I would have liked to see Buffy accidentally finding out some embarrassing secrets about her friends or just having fun with her new superpower.
